LOCAL ANESTHETIC

"FULL AWARENESS" is the most common anesthetic for dental care. You are most likely familiar with receiving a local injection compatible with your overall health considerations. Whenever possible our Doctors prefer to use FULL AWARE-NESS anesthesia. This simple procedure requires no special preparation beyond scheduling treatment. Your child is fully awake developing positive experiences we believe will build healthy preventive dental care habits throughout their life. Perhaps the greatest advantage to FULL AWARENESS DENTAL CARE is our ability to communicate with your child. We believe what a child learns about caring for the teeth and gums are as important as the treatment itself.

CONSCIOUS SEDATION

"DREAMY MODERATE AWARENESS" is recommended when the doctor believes your child may be extremely anxious during treatment. This mild approach simply allows your child to be cooperative and therefore not experience trauma induced by uncontrollable behavior like fear or reaction to a previous medical or dental experience. Our hope is by recommending DREAMY AWARENESS your child will eventually become comfortable with "FULL AWARENESS (local anesthetic) dental care.

There are several types of PRE-MEDICATION, which safely cause CONSCIOUS SEDATION: Chloral Hydrate, Visteril, and Valium. The doctor will prescribe the medication best suited for your child's overall health and dental treatment recommendations. Conscious Sedation will produce symptoms similar to the effects of alcohol. Your child will feel light headed, drowsy or perhaps even silly.

MONITORED ANESTHESIA CARE (MAC)

"MINIMAL OR NO AWARENESS" is a technique that allows your child to have an entire dental treatment with maximum comfort and the highest degree of safety utilizing the most modern and sophisticated anesthetic drugs and noninvasive continuous monitoring techniques.

All appointments and treatment will be managed in our office. We have a special operatory fully equipped for MONITORED ANESTHESIA CARE as well as a caring, highly qualified team of anesthesiologists who never leave your child once anesthesia has begun.

MONITORED ANESTHESIA is only recommended when your dentist believes it is absolutely the best choice for your child. Lifelong dental care avoidance can result from a traumatic experience. It is our absolute goal to make recommendations that ensure your child does not have a negative experience in our office. As your child matures, local anesthesia will be used without apprehension.

The anesthesiologist who will be caring for your child will contact you directly before your confirmed dental treatment. The is anesthesiologist is responsible for obtaining up-to-date medical history information and will provide you with pre-operative eating and drinking instructions. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have or discuss the anesthetic management technique. (You will be given more information directly from the anesthesiologist if MONITORED ANESTHESIA is recommended).
