Pediatric Dentistry of Palo Alto is committed to ensuring that this website is usable by as wide an audience as possible, including people who use assistive technologies. We are working to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA (opens in a new tab) as a target.
What we have implemented
- Semantic HTML structure with descriptive page titles and headings;
- Skip-to-content link at the top of every page;
- Color contrast intended to meet WCAG AA for body text;
- Visible keyboard focus indicators on interactive elements;
- Alternative text for non-decorative images;
- Resizable text without breaking the layout;
- Decorative animations that respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem preference; - Labeled controls for search and cookie preferences;
- Accessible names for icon buttons and social links;
- Navigation menus that work with a keyboard, touch, and screen readers, with submenus that open with a button and close with the Escape key;
- A "Pause animations" control at the top of every page and in the footer that stops the moving decorations and remembers your choice;
- Links that open in a new tab say so to screen reader users;
- A written description of our silent welcome video;
- A tagged, fillable PDF version of our release-of-information form with labeled fields.
Where we still have work to do
Accessibility is an ongoing process, not a one-time project. We are continuously improving the site and may not yet meet WCAG 2.2 AA in every detail. Areas we are actively reviewing include:
- Third-party services we link to or embed, such as the online scheduler, payment portal, and map, which we do not control directly;
- Image alt text for legacy images migrated from prior versions of the website;
- Continued testing with screen readers across multiple platforms;
- Captions, transcripts, or descriptions for any new video content we add.
